President Joe Biden recently spoke with former President Donald Trump after the latter was wounded in an attempted assassination at a campaign rally via Mediaite.
It has been noted that Trump was speaking on stage at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania when shots rang out and he grabbed his ear. He was swarmed by Secret Service and rushed off the stage, with what appeared to be blood on the side of his face, and then driven away.
It has come to light that Steven Cheung, Trump’s spokesman, issued a statement saying that the former president was “fine” and “being checked out at a local medical facility,” as well as offering thanks to those who assisted.
A rally attendee was killed and a couple of others were wounded and in serious condition, but most details are still unknown, according to the latest reports. The Secret Service has confirmed that the shooter was shot and killed, and the incident is being investigated as an assassination attempt.
Biden has issued a statement after the shooting that he was “grateful to hear” that Trump was “safe and doing well.”
The president later addressed the nation in a live television appearance and stated that he had not yet spoken to Trump but hoped to do so soon, condemning the violence and thanking the Secret Service and other first responders. The Biden campaign told reporters that all television advertisements and outgoing communications were being paused in the aftermath of the shooting.
CNN’s Kaitlan Collins reported during the 10:00 pm ET hour that Biden had spoken to Trump, as well as Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and Bob Dandoy, the mayor of Butler.
“We now can confirm from a White House official, that President Biden has spoken to former President Trump,” said Collins.
In addition, she said that Biden was returning to the White House, and would be getting a briefing tonight from Homeland Security and law enforcement officials, the director of the U.S. Secret Service, Biden’s top security advisors, and FBI Director Chris Wray.
“It is notable that former President Trump and President Biden have now spoken,” she wrapped her report. “We don’t know anything else about what was said during that conversation, but they have been able to make contact.”
