According to Mediaite, former President Donald Trump recently expressed his displeasure with the New York Post, once a prominent supporter of his presidency. In a social media video, Trump criticized the newspaper for what he perceived as a decline in its standards and readership since it allegedly turned against him. Trump attributed the publication’s alleged downturn to a shift towards what he called “fake news,” seemingly referencing its coverage of his ongoing legal entanglements.
Despite its conservative leanings and ownership under Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp, the New York Post has reported on Trump’s legal issues, including recent headlines that potentially aggravated the former president. Notably, the Post ran stories highlighting aspects of Trump’s ongoing legal challenges, such as the valuation of Mar-a-Lago and updates from his fraud trial. These developments seemingly provoked Trump’s ire, leading to his critique of the publication’s current direction.
However, the New York Post maintains its right-leaning stance, as evidenced by the continued coverage of President Joe Biden, exemplified by the work of opinion columnist Miranda Devine, whose recent article titled “Anatomy of a Biden family ‘cover-up’ executed by our own FBI and DOJ” demonstrates the publication’s enduring focus on right-wing perspectives and critiques of the current administration. Despite Trump’s discontent, the New York Post continues its coverage, providing a platform for conservative viewpoints and critical analyses of the political landscape.
“People aren’t buying it. They don’t want to read that. The New York Post has treated me great for almost a lifetime,” the 2024 GOP frontrunner continued, adding:
And now, for whatever reason, and I guess it’s radical left or the RINO stuff, they have gotten really bad and it’s ridiculous. But the numbers are down. Their numbers of readers and everything else has gone down tremendously. Great people are tired of hearing fake news. The New York Post used to be so good, but not anymore. We have to get it back before it’s too late because frankly, if they don’t change, there will be no more New York Post and that would be sad. Thank you.
