According to Mediaite, a fresh controversy seems to be brewing around former President Donald Trump as he appears to have run afoul of a new gag order issued by U.S. District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan. The order, which had initially been put on hold, was reinstated by Chutkan in the midst of the ongoing federal trial investigating Trump’s alleged efforts to subvert the 2020 election results.
In response to the renewed gag order, Trump took to his recently established social media platform, Truth Social, to express his discontent, claiming that the order was unconstitutional and a violation of his First Amendment rights. Despite his protests, his commentary didn’t stop there and seemed to extend into a direct violation of the order itself.
In a scathing online tirade, Trump launched a verbal assault on his former Attorney General Bill Barr, who had previously indicated his willingness to testify against Trump if called upon in the ongoing legal proceedings. Trump’s choice of words in this outburst painted Barr in an unflattering light, referring to him as “Dumb, Weak, Slow Moving, Lethargic, Gutless, and Lazy,” and labeling him a RINO (Republican In Name Only) who couldn’t fulfill his duties.
Trump’s criticism of Barr continued, citing the former Attorney General’s alleged attempts to evade impeachment. The ex-President’s remarks also included a mocking retort to Barr’s assessment of his verbal abilities, in which Trump boasted of his massive political following and derided Barr as a “LOSER.”
Bill Barr, who had been selected by Trump to serve as his second Attorney General, has not shied away from openly criticizing his former boss since stepping down in December 2020 amidst Trump’s contested attempts to remain in office.
It’s worth noting that the previous iteration of the gag order explicitly prohibited Trump from publicly attacking “any reasonably foreseeable witness or the substance of their testimony.” Judge Chutkan herself had previously remarked that Trump’s comments about his former chief of staff, Mark Meadows, would have contravened the order if it had not been temporarily halted. With Trump’s recent outburst directed at Bill Barr, it appears he may have once again breached the constraints of the court-issued gag order, potentially leading to further legal ramifications in the ongoing trial.
