WWE is a sports entertainment company. The possibility of it filing for a trademark is clear because the company wants to introduce new characters to the WWE Universe. It is during these times that WWE files a trademark. With Bray Wyatt’s return at Extreme Rules, the chances of the trademarks being linked to Bray Wyatt seem more obvious than ever before.
The names of “Uncle Harper” and “Uncle Howdy” have been requested for registration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on October 8th. They have been listed under entertainment services. WWE could use them with Bray Wyatt as Brodie Lee’s name in the Wyatt family stable was Luke Harper. While we cannot confirm if it links to Bray Wyatt, but that seems to be the case.
Trademark registration is intended to cover the categories of entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibitions and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer rendered live and through broadcast media including television and radio, and via the internet or commercial online service; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment via an online community portal; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment information; fan club services, namely, organizing sporting events in the field of wrestling for wrestling fan club members; organizing social entertainment events for entertainment purposes for wrestling fan club members; providing online newsletters in the fields of sports entertainment; online journals, namely blogs, in the field of sports entertainment.
It would be interesting if this happens as Brodie Lee got an honorary mention by AEW after his death, and WWE did the best they could. If they use the name Uncle Harper with Bray Wyatt’s stable then that would be personal to Wyatt and also help him create the character that will be one of the best in the business.
It is also possible that the names have been registered with the intent of being used in WWE’s third brand NXT. Now, whether that becomes a reality or not is something we would get to know when the names come out for public use.
