John Cena is looking forward to facing Roman Reigns

John Cena and Nikki Bella

In a recent interview with Sports Illustrate, WWE’s poster boy for the last decade, John Cena talked about many things including his wrestling gear and proposing Nikki Bella at WrestleMania 33.

Cena was also asked about a possible clash between him and WWE’s new top-face-in-the-making Roman Reigns. Replying to this, the former World Champion first praised the performance of the Big Dog:

“Roman is in the trenches every night and he’s performing at an elite level with a champion calibre attitude, His performance and the response that he gets from certain audiences is indicative of an elite-level performer.”

Although later the Cenation leader commented on the fact that Reigns considers WWE his yard, and said that he is looking forward to the day he will face Roman:

“He’s doing what I did in 2006, 2007, and 2008. He has all the justification in the world in saying it’s his yard. I’ve made a career of shutting the mouths of people who’ve made that claim that WWE was their yard, I very, very much look forward to the day we put that to the test.”

However, while John Cena vs. Roman Reigns can easily be a WrestleMania Calibre match, the possibilities of these two stars colliding in near future are not very bright as both of them are in different brands and Cena is taking more time off from WWE than he has done ever since he became the face of the company.

How about “The Former NXT Champion that WWE Creative (and Apparently You) Forgot, Until Cena Got People to Pay Closer Attention to Him” Neville?

Zack Ryder? You know, you had mentioned that most of the names being mentioned never made it past “Zack Ryder level.” If you’re considering winning the very prestigious at the time IC title at Wrestlemania, and then almost winning the tag titles but ultimately having that nixed due to injury to be “Zack Ryder level,” then the majority of the roster hasn’t reached that level. Sounds pretty good to me.

What about “The American Nightmare” and now Bullet Club member Cody Rhodes? What has Cody done in WWE before he met us with Cena? “Dashing” Cody Rhodes? Team Rhodes Scholars (Who was the breakout star from that team? Not Cody.) The Brotherhood? His match with Cena showcased his true ability, which allowed for him to get poached by ROH and placed into the hottest faction in sports entertainment right now, and one of the greatest of all time.

    Rusev.

    Barrett.

    Ambrose.

    Cesaro.

Basically everyone he faced in his US Open Challenge has benefited in some way, except for maybe Kane.

  • Kristopher Robinson

Other than Owens, how did the open challenge benefit anybody? And I’m not saying anybody has to beat him, but who has gotten moved to another level with a Cena? Pretty much all has either quite or hasn’t moved past the mid card level. Not necessary saying that’s Cenas fault, but he’s not elevating anybody that wasn’t already elevated.

  • Kristopher Robinson

So now all these guys would have never gotten to mid card status without Cena lol?! Bryan was the only one out of that list that’s held a form of the WHC and that’s bc of the fans, not Cena. And everybody else you have stated weren’t influenced by Cena, seeing as how they all got moved to “Zach ryder” level. Barrett even quit bc of this and so did the rest of the Nexus members, which none of them did anything. Slater only got pushed, bc of the fans, that had nothing to do with Cena. And Aj got where she did more with Bryan than Cena. Vickie got where she was bc of Edge, that had nothing to do with a Cena either. Edge I’ll give you still and Rusev. You’re giving me a list of a bunch of people that quite due to not being used. Dig deeper sir.

None of those names were perceived as legitimate main event caliber stars until they came in contact with Cena.

Wyatt became the “new face of fear” during their insane feud back in 2014.

If it wasn’t for his epic program with John Cena, Edge would’ve been looked at as nothing more than a decorated tag team competitor.

Cena put Rusev over in their US title feud back in 2015.

Ziggler got over as a GREAT heel when he got into it with Cena after alleging that he was having an affair with AJ Lee. That reminds me, add AJ Lee, Vickie Guerrero, and Big E to the list.

Cena did dismantle the Nexus, but then what happened afterwards? (King) Wade Barrett? Skip Sheffield/Ryback? Justin Gabriel/PJ Black? Darren Young? Heath Slater? David Otunga? Daniel Bryan? Think about it. I’ll wait…

These guys would not have had the careers that they had if they hadn’t crossed paths with John Cena.

  • Kristopher Robinson

When did he put over Wyatt? Or Rusev? And when did his feud with Edge end with Cena not taking the title? Edge had to go to a different brand. Owens I’ll give you. And Barrett… didn’t Cena completely dismantle the Nexus? What happened to Barrett after that… Sheamus I’ll give you as well. When did he put Ziggler over?

  • MindTricked

People’s heads would explode – they wouldn’t know who to ridiculously-boo more. It’d be kind of like tying a slice of buttered bread (buttered-side up) to the back of a cat, and throwing it off a table.

  • Nicholas Giambattista

Putting people over doesn’t always means wins an lost record. What about John Cena last run as US champion when he did the open challenge for the US title. He put a lot of guys over when he was doing that it was one of his big last run in the WWE.

  • MrDr3w

Bray Wyatt, AJ Styles, CM Punk, Miz, Rusev, Edge, Sheamus, Barrett, Ziggler, Owens, Rollins…

Yeah, Cena never loses and puts anyone over. You’re right. Lol go home dude, you’re drunk.

  • Nicholas Giambattista

John Cena is more into Hollywood now. I believe his wrestling days are just about over.

  • Kristopher Robinson

There is absolutely no comparison between the two. Reigns is willing to lose and put someone over, Cena is not.

  • zim

if those 2 had a match it would never end.
Roman kicks out at 2. Spear!
Cena kicks out at 2. AA!
Roman kicks out at 2. Spear!
Cena kicks out at 2. AA!
    12 years later….
    Roman kicks out at 2.
    YOU GET THE PICTURE

They will definitely clash someday soon, how soon? Probably 3-5 years.
