John Cena worked with Nickelodeon on many occasions, appearing for the Kids Choice Awards multiple times, and even showing up the Fred movies. So it wouldn’t be surprising to see him in a starring role on the network at some point.
Well, it seems he’ll be doing just that. “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?” was originally aired on Fox with comedian Jeff Foxworthy as the host. It would have four seasons, including a revival in 2015, but was ultimately canceled twice due to poor ratings. Nickelodeon has decided to bring the show back, however, with the 16-time World Champion as the host this time around.
It was first revealed by Variety in an article highlighting new content the network would be bringing on in hopes of regaining some of the audience it had lost, along with the new generation. Not much is known about the latest revival of the show aside from what’s already been revealed.
We’ll probably hear more about it as we move on in the year, as Nickelodeon will want to start bringing many of these shows to television ASAP, and John Cena’s star power could definitely help bring in better ratings.
