Michelle Obama recently garnered attention for a low-key, undercover trip to a Target in St. Louis, Missouri, to see if her book “The Light We Carry” was being carried in the retail chain. The book, which was originally released in hardcover in November 2022, has since been published in paperback and was released in stores on April 16, 2024.
The former First Lady documented her “secret mission” in a viral video, where she mentioned that it was her first time seeing the paperback version of her book in a Target store. She approached the mission with humor and a sense of fun, stating, “We are on a mission. It’s a secret mission,” before heading into the store with her crew.
In the video, Michelle expressed excitement and surprise as she found her book on the shelf. She signed a few copies for lucky shoppers who happened to be in the store at the time. This unexpected encounter left those shoppers with a memorable experience and a special keepsake.
Michelle Obama was in St. Louis to serve as a keynote speaker at the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, which further underscores her continued involvement in public speaking and her commitment to mental health awareness. While speculation about her political ambitions may continue, this visit was more about promoting her book and connecting with her readers in a unique and personal way.
While in St. Louis, I stopped by @Target to run a few errands and check out the paperback of my book, #TheLightWeCarry. I left behind a few signed copies – if you find them, let me know! pic.twitter.com/4AhMU9zFPY
