Rocky Johnson Discusses The Rock vs. John Cena, His Son in the HOF and More

– WWE Hall of Famer Rocky Johnson recently spoke with The Miami Herald about his son The Rock. Here are some highlights:

The Rock working with WWE again:
“He went out a champion, [and] it’s in his blood. It was in his grandfather’s blood. It’s in my blood. He is never going to get rid of it. Once you get into this business it stays with you through your whole life — whether it’s wrestling or being a manager or an agent. I’ve been in it for more than 30 years. It’s what he wants. I wouldn’t want him to do it on a full-time basis though. I told him, ‘You go back once or twice a year, or once every couple of years, because it’s in your system.’”

The Rock inducting him into the 2008 Hall of Fame:
“That meant more than anything in all the years that I put into professional wrestling. It was the culmination of everything. Now I look forward to inducting him one day into the Hall of Fame.”

The Rock possibly going into the Hall of Fame next year:
“I’m not going to be the judge of that. Eventually he will be… I think he needs to be inducted in, but I don’t make that decision. We all live in Florida so I think it would be the perfect place. Though, again, I don’t make that decision.”

The WrestleMania 28 match against John Cena:
“With John Cena and The Rock, I think is strictly business. There is nothing personal. John Cena is a fantastic wrestler who has proven himself and has been world champion. I think it will probably be the greatest match in history. It will be two great athletes going against each other. I am always going to say Rock will come out,” Johnson said. “He is my son. I’m not going to bet against him.”

The Rock vs Austin, all of them. Those were the “biggest” matches imo.

  • The Great One

By greatest i think he means biggest. But even then i dont think it will be, the biggest match imo was rock vs hogan as it was when rock was in his prime and hogan was still loved.

Now, Rock is still loved the way hogan was when he vs rock, but cena is hated. For it to be the biggest match up it has to be two guys who are widely recognised as two of the greatest, cena isnt, he is regarded as the guy who only sells to kids and is hated by everyone else

  • RUSTanator

i dont even think cena vs rock will be half as good as rock vs hogan.

  • BlahH

Its odd that the WWE ( mostly Jim Ross) thru the years always talk about the The Rocks grandfather (High Chief Peter Mavia) but hardly ever mention his dad Rocky Johnson…… Him and Tony Atlas were my uncles favorite tag team back in the days.

  • Mabry

i meant Michaels in both cases….

  • Mabry

I do think its gonna be a good match, but the greatest?… no way it could be better then Owen vs Bret, or Bret vs Micheal, or Michale vs Taker, i dont even think it´ll be better than Hogan vs Ultimate Warrior…
