Prior to WWE announcing that the 2016 and 2017 edition of SummerSlam would be taking place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY, WWE planned to return to California.

The plan at one point was to bring the show back to Los Angeles, CA at the Staples Center in 2016.
WWE also discussed bringing the event to the new MGM Arena, which opens over the summer.
However, it was decided to return to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.
