The Stockwell Section – Nexus just got Edgier.

When it comes to reporting the news, I admit that I am a sucker for a great pun. The English tabloids have a wonderful knack for creating an awesome line – particularly in regards to football (or soccer as it is known colloquially in America and Australia). I particularly admire The Sun and The Mirror for their fun puns but I also admit to having admiration for the folks who govern WWE.com, as I usually find that throughout the year, they produce some great one liners. However, as expected, not all the lines are great – and the headline following the past Raw falls into this category.

‘PUNK AND BLACK ATTACK’ – granted if Punk had attacked a member of the Hart Family or he himself was related to them in some manner, but otherwise I couldn’t understand why the WWE.com pundits had referred to the maneuver made famous by The Hart Foundation whilst the subject matter concerned CM Punk and John Cena. Just was a tad odd tis all.

How about… “THE ENEMY JUST GOT A LITTLE EDGIER”

OK, I said I admire them, I never said I could write up a decent one myself. If you have a good one you want to share, leave it in the comment box – I know I’d like to hear them.

Anyway, moving onto the subject at hand. What do I think of CM Punk and him joining forces with Nexus?

So a big part of me, wishes this wasn’t the case. Punk and Cena don’t really need Nexus involved to have a good feud and to be honest – I would have much preferred it if Punk was attacking Cena simply because he spilt his Diet Coke – there’s just something amusing about a feud starting off in such a manner.

I also feel like this is another chapter in the saga we’ve been subject to for the better part of 2010, so continuing the feud between Cena and Nexus just makes me yawn a little. Granted that Punk is the new intriguing element of the equation, but regardless, it just feels like the unification is being done to insure that members of Nexus have something to do – and at the expense of hearing Cena repeat the same verbal taunts about Slater looking like a chick from Wendys or how Otunga lives off his wife or how Gabriel may be a little more alternative then we may think – it just isn’t worth it.

The inclusion of Nexus and considering how Cena has torn his way through them already just doesn’t work. Cena has taken Nexus apart as of late and got to Barrett with ease so how is this any more threatening when Cena could easily do the same to reach the straight edge star – all things considered, Punk has nothing more then a few road bumps between himself and Cena.

Nexus’ young stars may be over the moon in regards to the decision, as it gives them more time to secure a vital spot on the roster – but this’ll be difficult once Cena has made them all his bitches once again. If anything, they needed a new opponent to help secure said spot. Now, in all likeliness, the majority of them will be released come the end of the year.

And where was Wade Barrett? Is he still the leader of the rebel group or has Punk taken that role? Is he going to come back and feud with Punk or will he simply take a back seat? Wade has a ton of potential and he has shown that over the last few months. For him to take a secondary position to Punk or be involved to what will surely be an awful Old Leader vs New Leader feud, is a major step down for the star – and honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if WWE try and turn the star face to battle his old collogues. Regardless, this could be the end of the Englishman – however WWE decide to play this will ultimately effect Wade and his status and although he has shown promise, I fear he could be partial to a release come the end of 2011.

I suppose, I’ll wait and see how everything pans out but my first impression of the angle is that it is unnecessary and if anything, quite lazy – much like the aforementioned headline.

Until NXT Time…
