ThunderStruck: WWE Smackdown Analysis 11/07/14

The Usos challenge the Dust Brothers for the tag team titles inside a steel cage to kick off Smackdown. Stardust pins Jey just after the eight minute mark with a quick rollup. The Dust Bros retain.

^That was a really good tag team cage match. I hope we see some other tag teams challenge for the gold now that the Usos have been taken care of again. Solid start to Smackdown!

Raw highlights. This is shown for the people who can’t sit through a three hour show but still want the highlights.

Kane cuts a promo in the ring about how the Authority handled Randy Orton on Raw. He talks about Dolph Ziggler choosing the audience and Team Cena. Kane makes a match tonight between himself and Dolph inside the steel cage.

^That should be a fun main event. Kane is slower than he used to be, but Ziggler can carry him to an epic match.

Kane then wants to call out a potential recruit for Team Authority, but he’s interrupted by Cesaro. Cesaro offers himself up to join the team. Kane books Cesaro against Ryback right now as Ryback was the man he wanted on Team Authority.

Ryback defeats Cesaro(under four minutes) in a short match with shell shocked. Kane watched the match at ringside. Kane jumps in the ring to talk to Ryback but he walks away.

^I don’t see Ryback joining the Authority, but a face push wouldn’t be too bad as long as he doesn’t get to be the one who defeats Brock Lesnar for the gold.

R-Truth is in the ring next. He’s doing his old rap thing. His opponent is Adam Rose. The bunny dances on the apron after Truth and it distracts Rose. Truth with a three count rollup in under two minutes. The bunny is sad after the match and Rose is not happy as he shoves the bunny down.

^Perhaps this is a new development to the Adam Rose character. The match was a waste, but at least it was interesting to see the fallout.

Dean Ambrose is a guest on the Peep Show with Christian. Bray Wyatt interrupts them from the top of the stage. Bray says he healed Rowan and Harper and that he can heal Ambrose too. He says he understands salvation is not for everyone but Dean has nothing to lose. Bray talks about Ambrose’s father as well and Ambrose goes up the ramp towards him. The lights flash out and Bray is directly behind Dean as he shouts “run” in his ear and then the lights go out again as Bray disappears.

^That was freaky and freakin awesome. Loved it and can’t wait to watch these two wreck one another!

We see Rusev beating Sheamus for the US Title after Raw. I saw it when it happened. You probably did too.

We see mpre Raw stuff with the Bellas and AJ. Lame.

Renee Young interviews AJ Lee. AJ says she blames Nikki for Brie slapping her. Brie comes into the scene to apologize and AJ says she gets it. Nikki jumps AJ and knocks her down. It was a setup.

^At least it was short and compelling. That’s more than I can say for most divas matches.

Natalya is out next with Tyson Kidd in her corner and she’s taking on Summer Rae. Kidd does commentary. Summer wins with a rollup when Natalya gets distracted by Tyson.

^Kidd is a really really bad talker. He sounded like a stumbling bumbling idiot. This explains a lot about why he’s never been legitimately pushed. The match was hard fought by the ladies but ended too quickly. Another follow up to the Total Divas storyline.

Ryback will go one on one with John Cena on Raw. It will not be a clean finish for that one.

Renee Young interviews Dolph Ziggler. Triple H interrupts and isn’t so nice to Dolph. He points out that no one from Raw who saved him will be here to save him tonight.

^Interesting that Hunter is still pitching for Dolph to change his mind and join the Authority. Dolph has so much talent and it looks like someone(H) is pretending that he’s taken notice. They’re only pushing him this way because they realized they need more stars with Punk, Dbry and Reigns gone(and everyone being so sick of Orton and Cena). I’m just happy we get matches like this.

We get a Luke Harper promo before Ziggler faces Kane. Maybe he’ll be going after the IC Title.

Kane takes on Dolph Ziggler in our main event. Ziggler wins in just over eight minutes by escaping the cage(he bashes Kane’s head with the door twice before hitting the floor). Ziggler celebrates to end the show as Kane looks furious.

^That was fun to watch. Dolph is innovative and works his ass off to give the audience to enjoy the show. Ziggler’s push, regardless of reasons behind it, is very much well deserved and I think I speak for everyone when I say that it’s about damn time.

The show is an 8 out of 10. With Cesaro/Ryback going longer by four or five minutes and the same for Rose/Truth then I could probably give it a 9 instead. It was a very well scripted show overall with some quality professional wrestling presented to us.
