Trent Seven addresses fans who think NXT UK signees are sellouts

Trent Seven - Moustache Mountain

The British Wrestling is seemingly the hottest it’s been in nearly two decades at the moment. With promotions like ICW and Progress receiving even more coverage than before, along with the return of World of Sport, it could be said that it may be at its peak.

Many of the stars who have helped build it up, including Pete Dunne, Tyler Bate, Zack Gibson, and most recently, WALTER, have joined up with the WWE in hopes of helping to shine even more light on it.

However, some fans feel that those who have opted to sign with NXT UK and the WWE have betrayed the scene simply for the money.

Trent Seven of Moustache Mountain, in an interview with JOE, says that it’s complete garbage.

It’s codswallop. Absolute codswallop. It’s the most pathetic thing in the world. You don’t want to sound too egotistical, but in fairness [after] what we’ve done in the last two years for the independent scene, for certain fans to turn around and say that now it’s ruined, is probably the stupidest thing I’ve heard anyone say.

It’s quite clear [British Wrestling] is at the absolute peak of where it has ever been.

What are your thoughts on the situation? Are the UK stars joining the WWE selling out? Let us know in the comments below.

How dare someone want to make a name for themselves on the worldwide scene.
Wrestling fans are so self entitled most of the time.

If WWE dominates the UK scene, that does not mean that indy promotions will suddenly all dry up and die.
This is not like the days of Vince and the NWA. UK promotions are pretty small scale anyway, and they will stay like that. The NWA promotions back then were bigger deals and there was no big dominant promotions at the time like WWE, so when Vince created the WWE we know now, he decimated the whole industry and then WCW did even more to drive small promotions under.

Regardless of whether there is a UK WWE promotion or not, the size of WWE would always have meant the independents would remain small and lose talent over time to the monster that is WWE.

Now with AEW on the rise, that will potentially hurt the indy scene even more as they sign up talent to exclusive contracts as well, yet you won’t hear people calling anyone a sell out for signing there.

If these UK promotions signed deals that allow WWE to buy them out, then go speak to those guys who agreed that deal, not the wrestlers who are just trying to better themselves.

I’m not sure what it is, but I can’t get into the NXT UK brand.

    Sounds like a defensive sellout

The fans have a bit of a point, and NXT UK 100% does not need to exist. But I’d be far more concerned about those cute little “deals” some of those UK indy promotions signed, giving WWE the right to possibly buy them out and shut them down? Why would such a clause be in a contract in the first place, if WWE wasn’t, long-term, looking to dominate the UK scene?
