For reasons publicly unclear, Vickie Guerrero has been subject to numerous verbal taunts concerning her weight throughout her tenure with WWE. Despite the placement of an anti-bullying policy and Guerrero herself losing over fifty pounds, the insults about her appearance continue to linger on WWE television shows. Last month at Over the Limit, commentator Jerry Lawler spent much of the WWE Tag Team Championship Match hurling weight-related barbs at Guerrero, who was wearing a dress with holes cut out.

When Vickie’s husband Eddie Guerrero died of heart failure in November 2005, Vince McMahon stated at a press conference that he promised to financially take care of her family for the rest of their lives. However, rather than dispense money to Guerrero for free, she was summoned to work for the organization as a television character despite having minimal training and experience. Wrestling Observer editor Dave Meltzer was asked by a reader this weekend whether McMahon’s constant degradation of Guerrero is being done to get her to quit WWE, thereby forfeiting their lifetime deal.

“I don’t think they’ve ever tried to run her off. They just had an idea for her character.” Meltzer states. “The worst stuff was when she had already given notice a few years back, as opposed to them trying to get her to leave.”

In May 2009, Guerrero requested to be released from her contract with WWE. As a single parent, she felt it was important to spend more time with her fatherless teenage daughters during their crucial adolescent years. McMahon, however, was livid over Guerrero’s decision.

Matthew Randazzo V writes of the WWE CEO’s reaction in the July 2009 issue of Power Slam: “He takes grievous offence and begins to rant and rave that Guerrero has betrayed WWE. Yes, Vince believes that the widow of Eddie Guerrero is ungrateful to the professional wrestling industry because she is putting her family first. From this point on, Vince’s shameless lackeys curry his favour by pitching gratuitous pig and fatso jokes at creative meetings—which earn booming guffaws from Vince.”

McMahon’s ire shifts on-screen, with Santino Marella and his fictitious twin sister “Santina” insulting Guerrero for weeks, calling her a pig and making oinking noises. The storyline climaxes with Guerrero being placed in a Hog Pen Match at the June 2009 Extreme Rules pay-per-view—Vickie and Santina brawl in a pen full of mud. With the Guerrero character refusing to be humiliated anymore, she quits her job as General Manager of Raw the following evening. After her announcement, she was joined in the ring by her estranged storyline husband, Edge. Requesting a divorce, the Rated-R Superstar viciously blasts Guerrero, calling her a “she-beast” among other insults.

Guerrero was asked last year during an interview with The Baltimore Sun whether WWE’s negative remarks toward her weight affect her.

“They really don’t bother me. Well, I guess they did to an extent, but not to where I was feeling bad about myself. It was who I was,” she said. “We have beautiful women that work with us, and when I was in the locker room with them and we’re dressing and stuff, I would look at them and be like, ‘Oh, this is ridiculous. I’m going to change.’ I wanted to feel good being a part of their group and to live a lifestyle that was going to be promoted with the WWE. Now when they say the jokes, it’s like, ‘Whatever.’ [laughs] The jokes have helped grow my character to what it is. I just kind of roll with it and leave it behind me when I leave the arena. Again, there’s the character and then there’s the real person. You can’t take what’s going on at work personally.”

    @Straight-edge

No offense, but fans like you are sad. It’s one thing to be a hardcore WWF/E fan. I was a longtime fan too. I still AM a fan of some of the wrestlers, like Punk, Danielson, Christian, etc.

But I am NOT a fan of the WWE as a promotion anymore. Vince gets worse and worse in his old age, and quite frankly, his “boy” HHH isn’t any better. HHH is a man who get where he is in wrestling not because of his ability, but because of marrying Vince’s daughter. Yes, he became a top star in the business as leader of DX (you know, the version of DX that WWE never publicly acknowledges on air). But by the time he won his first WWF Championship, he was already banging the boss’ daughter (a step up from dating a man, Chyna). And all his success, 13 world title runs, about 5 Wrestlemanias main evented, etc., isn’t JUST because he’s a good wrestler. No…it’s because he’s the husband of the head of WWE creative.

And the point is, HHH is right up Vince’s alley. They’re both bullies, they’re both full of themselves, and apparently they both do things to amuse themselves, and only themselves. They also hand-pick guys to be “their guys”, and hardly anyone else ever gets a chance to shine. The reason we’ve had Orton shoved down our throats for years, is because HHH hand picked him to be a star. Same with Batista before he left. The reason we’ve had Cena forced down our throats for years, is because Stephanie liked him, and wanted him pushed.

The entire McMahon family, with the exception (I’d like to think) of Shane, are a bunch of egotistacal assholes. I’m not saying they’re BAD people. But what kind of people would make fun of Vickie Guerrero’s weight? What kind of people would make fun of Mickie James, when she wasn’t even REMOTELY fat, when she was their TOP BABYFACE woman wrestler? It’s pathetic. What kind of people would make fun of Jim Ross’ health issues? Or have Orton tell Rey Mysterio that “Eddie’s in Hell”, RIGHT after Eddie died?

Fact of the matter is, Vince McMahon is a businessman first, and that’s it. He does what he can to make money, and on the side, he has his “writers” come up with stupid bullshit to make HIM chuckle, even though few fans actually find it amusing. You think the “Kiss My Ass Club” was just a “funny” gimmick? No, I guarantee you Vince ate it up, “act” or not. Making Trish Stratus get down on her hands and knees and bark like a dog? Having Vince McMahon vs. God? The list goes on and on.

The guy is a grade A douchebag. I used to have a tremendous amount of respect for him. But honestly, while I look back fondly on heyday memories of his company’s wrestlers, I do not like him as person anymore. I have read and heard far too many accounts from far too many former employees, etc., to think that they’re ALL “just bitter former stars”. No. I think the more realistic option is, that if enough stories share the opinion that you’re a major asshole….chances are, you are one.

  • King Albert

Hmm jerry is an old man now, i bet when he was vickies age he wasn’t fat, fat or not, bullying someone into quitting is pathetic, why dont he just fire her and be done with it, why be an asshole.

  • Little Jimmy

Vickie’s done amazing quite frankly. She’s the best manager WWE have had for a long time. But she is versatile she can be used in many roles, and shes way over. She draws more heat than most of the heels as soon as the fans hear her screeching “EXCUSE ME!” The fans boo her like crazy.

Personally I don’t see her leaving myself, Vince is a ruthless bastard but he’s not a heartless one.

  • sensation1011

Matt you know Vince doesn’t read this right? So why are you sucking him off you idiot. whether he said it or not it does sound like him so shut up you f*cking moron no body cares what you have to say

  • Matt

Do any of you really think that Vince McMahon is that much of a child? This story is horseshit. Do you think he doesn’t have THE BALLS to fire her at any given time? Do you think he doesn’t know that she literally gets more heat than any wrestler has in a decade? The story is this: people making fun of Vickie is part of her character and it feeds into the heat. It works. It’s a PG world and calling an annoying heel fat works. But this idea that Vince would take this spineless route to getting rid of somebody is elementary school gossip at best.

Vickie Guerrero is a woman I have the upmost respect for! She realized her girls needed food on their plates and that Eddie wasn’t their to provide anymore. So she came up with this unlikable character and at first she got a lot of shit for the edge stuff with a percentage of fans saying she was insulting eddies memory etc. Yet she soldiered on because her kids needed her to. Strong woman little bit of name calling isn’t going to stop her!

  • sensation1011

Who is Vince to be talking anyways, he is an old fag who always has gotten off with big wrestlers. As for Lawler, I wouldn’t be surprise if he sucked Vince off at times or maybe still does.

  • Stevie P

Like Simon07 said, she draws a TON of heat. Probably the most out of anyone in the company, getting rid of her would be stupid.

The fat jokes aren’t even funny. She loses more weight every time we see her and yet Lawler still says fat jokes. Can’t Cole make jokes about Lawler having sex with an underage girl? Why not? It’s funny right?

  • ant

vickie guerrero has actually gotten hotter since losing weight i cant deny that fact then again ive always had a thing for older women

  • Kevin roulette

Vince sucks . She should quit and go to tna

  • chronoxiong

Vince’s anti-bullying campaign is a joke. Always is and will continue to be. Lol…

  • wolfe

she lost a lot of weight and still being made fun off, fuck u vince and the wwe goons that kiss ur ass

  • UTA316

its wrong what the WWE and Vince is doing to Vickie. After everything she has done from the name calling to the dumb ass gimics shes had to the miss wrestlemania match with santina where she was humiliated worse than i have seen anyone else in recent years, but sadly no one in the organization will care until its starts to effect Linda McMahons senate run then watch the WWE treat vickie like a queen

  • Straight-edge

i think it was great of vince to offer her that job for taken care of the family. vince is a good man just a better business man and shouldnt be judged on that. i hope vicky dont leave tv i like her roll just like to see her focus more on jack and ziggler leave her to become a bigger star. i feel she is holding him back.

  • Jon-Jon

Honestly, I’d bang Vickie in a heart-beat. She’s hot as hell.

  • simon07

Vince would be stupid to drive Vickie out anyway, she draws more heat than most if not all WWE’s wrestlers. (Although Cole is up there with her which shows what a bad state WWE is in).

  • Bill

Vickie helped make Edge & Dolph Ziggler huge stars… something Cena, Orton, HHH, or Vince never did. She’s just as good as Eddie was for the business.

  • http://[email protected] gerg357

Of course he is.. shes not very talented but shes been working very hard lost all that weight and has done everything i think asked of her in the wwe. they pulled this on mickie james as well.. She ended up leaving.. Once vickie leaves though wwe has no ties to take care of her. She will probably be a lapdog til the end. But more people should call wwe on this since they are against bullying suposidly and look what they are doing. this cant be good press for wwe.

  • Buttercastle

As annoying as she is, stuff like this makes me feel bad for Vickie.

  • SYM

My question is does the WWE actually think the Fat Jokes are Funny? Because for One Vickie Guerrero is gorgeous and in very good shape, and Two when they have John Cena or Jerry “Ass-Licking” Lawler make fun of Vickie no one laughs.

  • Paul E Not-so-Dangerously

Vince McMahon is a scumbag. So what else is new?

  • Josh

Lawler ain’t exactly a buffed up Adonis. And at least Vicki’s sexual preferences are not prepubescent.

  • sensation1011

Who the hell does Vince think he is ? Donald trump? Has he forget he has that sponge bob of a daughter ? I hope Eddie haunts his ass.
