WWE currently interested in Eli Drake

Eli Drake no longer works for Impact Wrestling after the company severed all ties with him. He had lots of issues with the company and already told them he wouldn’t re-sign with the company, so he was fired.

Sean Ross Sapp was asked about WWE’s interest in Eli Drake during a recent instalment of Fightful Select’s Q&A. It seems that WWE is interested in him but before signing with WWE, he has some Impact Wrestling contract issues he has to deal with first.

“No interest until he completely gets out of his Impact deal, but yeah there has been interest on WWE’s behalf. They really like how he can — I say ‘they’ — some really like how he can talk.”

Impact Wrestling fired Eli Drake and are trying to hold him to a breach of contract claim. This might see Drake with a year-long no-compete clause. So he won’t be able to sign with any other company until 2020.

We will provide updates regarding Eli Drake’s contract status when we learn more.

Why? Because he’s a needle mover? He isn’t. Because he did well in TNA? So did Roode, Young, and EC3 and WWE did nothing with them. To keep him from AEW? At this point, they are only a t-shirt company. WWE needs to do a better job with the people they have, not keep signing people because they think the next Rock is out on the indies somewhere. NXT is stockpiled with talent that will never be called up and would be better off leaving WWE, names like Dakota Kai, Trent Seven, Danny Burch, and Shane Thorne.

You really think WWE would have interest in hiring someone who has already got a reputation for openly disagreeing with booking decisions, and calling out his employers on twitter?

  • Grant Thomson

    Elias version 2.0

  • Soulshroude

    Ageed. Just another “jobber”

  • Rinn13

Just like most of the outside stars and indie darlings they bring in.

  • Killswitch

I feel he’d get lost in the shuffle.
