- WWE’s Robert Zimmerman has sent a letter to Christopher Shays, the opponent for Linda McMahon in her 2012 Senate bid, disputing recent statements Shays made about WWE. Here are some quotes:

“In the past you have visited WWE Headquarters in Stamford and, as a Congressman, you actively supported WWE’s non-partisan initiative, SmackDown Your Vote, which encouraged young people to register to vote. Certainly, you are aware of our recent anti-bullying efforts in your hometown of Bridgeport when WWE Superstar Sheamus visited Hall Neighborhood House on August 3, 2011 and spoke to over 100 kids about stopping this rampant issue. Therefore, we are perplexed about the factual inaccuracies you stated regarding WWE in recent interviews with the Connecticut Post and Associated Press.”

The letter goes on to mention WWE’s new anti-bullying campaign and PG content. WWE says that Shays is inaccurate when he says they promote bullying.

“The health and well-being of our performers is WWE’s top priority. As with any entertainment or sports business, our performers are the cornerstone of our success and without them, we have no business. We have an extensive talent health and wellness program administered independently by a team of renowned physicians. We invite you to review our program by visiting corporate.wwe.com. One death in any industry is too many. However, since the formation of the company in 1982, five wrestlers have passed away while under contract. According to coroner reports, one individual died by accident, one by suicide and three by heart disease. Therefore, your statement that “41 people 50 years and younger have died in their jobs” while at WWE is inaccurate.”

“On behalf of WWE, its 650 employees and approximately 300,000 fans in Connecticut, we would greatly appreciate it if you would stick to factual statements about our organization and brand.”

@StudDog, May I offer you a grat big THANK YOU also.

@Jason, Go away you TNA mark.

  • HR

    Ouch! Can you say burned?

  • J-J

The other one was Russ Haas, brother of Charlie Haas who died from heart failure while still in developmental. He had been born with a heart problem (I believe it was a hole in his heart) so steroids weren’t an issue.
The other 2 heart related deaths were Pillman & Eddie.
Then sadly there was Owens accident & the Benoit tragedy….

  • JOE

@tombstone no he was released before he died. I think the reason they let him go, was because he violated the Wellness program for second time.

  • TheOnlyOne

I can’t quite figure out who the other one was that passed away while under contract. So far I have Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit, Owen Hart, Brian Pillman and one other…

  • Jason

The WWE/WWF/WWWF brand first came out in 1945 not 1982. I don’t care if it was just called WWF then, it was still apart of WWWF as a whole. Nice try McMahons

  • StudDog

@Tombstone, Hey some people dont like us but some (Most) do. Not gonna rag on them because thats what freedom is all about.

They want to hit the dislike on my SEMPER FI!! well they have that right. I just hope they always remember that my Brothers, Sisters and I will always defend these rights.

Glad you liked it though! (-:

    SEMPER FI!!!!

  • StudDog

@JIR, I consider it an honor and a privilege to serve our great country. Still appreciate the shout though.

WWE is a very credible and prestigous company. However, considering how those deaths occurred is what Shays referencing too. I wont go too far but it simply obvious by WWE making it such a priority to reply in politics. This is the 3rd statement WWE has made against Shays remarks toward the company. Done dada nuff said

  • JIR

@Greg – Remmber politicians are in it for there own agendas not the peoples need

@StudDog – I said it once to you I will say it again THANK YOU!

@donners – Mr. Perfect and Test I think

  • Tombstone

  • Tombstone

    @StudDog
Looks like at least 4 people (or maybe terrorist) didnt like your SEMPER FI.

But hey I did! Go Marines!

  • StudDog

    Oops almost forgot.

    SEMPER FI!!!!

  • StudDog

    @Greg
Very well said. Sadly though politicians will never change. If he were not running against a McMahon then chances are he would be praising the WWE fans and the Industry in an effort to get more votes. I really wish the politicians would run on their own merrits and not resort to smear tactics.

  • Buttercastle

Ouch. Looks like Zimmerman very politely just asked Shays to stfu.

  • Greg

Fuckin A I wish the politicians would grow up and realize that not all wrestling fans are simpletons and being a wrestler or involved with wrestling doesn’t make you a bad person. Politicians and the media look at the wrestling industry like everyone involved is a leper. Ridiculous seeing as there are now several politicians who have wrestling backgrounds, several best selling authors who were or are wrestlers, and look at all mick foleys charity work. The wrestling industry deserves way more respect then it gets.
