During a bizarre and controversial rant on Newsmax’s The Balance, Rudy Giuliani, former New York City mayor and one of Donald Trump’s attorneys, made derogatory and unfounded remarks about former Vice President Mike Pence and his wife, Karen Pence. Giuliani suggested that Karen Pence keeps her husband on a leash and only allows him to be unaccompanied when he needs to use the bathroom.
The rant came after Trump’s arraignment in Washington, D.C., during which Giuliani attempted to showcase his legal expertise, claiming to have once elicited a confession from a congressman at the witness stand. However, the focus quickly shifted to Giuliani’s disdain for Pence, whom he described as too weak to be president. Despite previously having a favorable opinion of Pence, Giuliani’s perception of him soured, especially after the events surrounding the 2020 election.
Using crude gestures, Giuliani insinuated that Karen Pence exercises an unusual level of control over her husband, making a leash gesture around his own neck to emphasize his point. He suggested that Pence rarely ventures out without his wife’s supervision, except when going to the bathroom. The former mayor’s remarks about Pence and his wife were seen as disrespectful and inappropriate, and they attracted criticism and condemnation from various quarters.
I once got a congressman to break down at the witness stand and confess, so I really know what I’m doing, and to be described as a— what did he, what did Pence say? I don’t think he’s ever been in a courtroom and he went to the law school nobody even knows. I mean, that guy is— that guy, I mean, I thought before this all happened that he was a really good guy, but too weak to be president.
Giuliani then remarked, “I always worried about him following Trump ’cause I would see him with his wife having something around his neck every night.”
Giuliani’s attack on Pence occurred just a day after the former vice president made critical comments about Trump’s legal team, referring to them as a group of “crackpot lawyers” who told Trump what he wanted to hear after the 2020 election. This likely added fuel to the already contentious relationship between Pence and Giuliani, leading to the former mayor’s harsh words.
It is important to note that in 2017, Pence made headlines when it was revealed that he adhered to certain personal and religious practices due to his Christian faith. These practices included never eating alone with women or attending events that served alcohol without his wife present. While this information was previously reported in the media, Giuliani’s inappropriate and exaggerated comments took the situation to an entirely different level, drawing widespread criticism.
