According to Mirror, Emma Heming Willis, the wife of Hollywood icon Bruce Willis, has opened up about the heartbreaking challenges she has faced as a primary caregiver for her husband, who has been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia. Bruce Willis, known for his roles in films like “Die Hard” and “The Sixth Sense,” was initially diagnosed with aphasia, a language disorder, before his condition progressed to frontotemporal dementia.
Emma, who married Bruce in 2009, has been candidly sharing updates about her husband’s well-being and her own experiences as a caregiver on her social media platforms. In a series of emotional videos posted on her Instagram Stories where she cried, she discussed the difficult role of being a “care partner” for someone with dementia.
She spoke about the challenges she faces behind closed doors and the effort she puts into living her “best life” despite the difficulties. Emma expressed her dedication to taking care of herself not only for her own well-being but also for the sake of her family, including her two daughters with Bruce.
Emma’s heartfelt message also extended to other caregivers, emphasizing the importance of self-care for those who provide support to loved ones with dementia. She encouraged fellow caregivers to take a few moments for themselves and find something beautiful in the midst of their demanding days.
Emma has been proactive in raising awareness about dementia and caregiving, using her platform to shed light on the devastating effects of the condition. She recently launched the Make Time wellness brand, which focuses on brain and body health through supplements, recipes, and stress reduction techniques.
“I know it looks like I’m out living my best life – I have to make a conscious effort every single day to live the best life that I can.
I do that for myself. I do that for our two children. And Bruce, who would not want me to live any other way. So I don’t want it to be misconstrued,” Emma continued, as she began to cry while talking to the camera. “I have to put my best foot forward for the sake of myself and of my family. When we are not looking after ourselves, we cannot look after anyone that we love. So it’s really important,” she added.
The former model confessed it was a “conscious effort” to make time for self-care, telling her fans she was “doing the best I can, always” and urged fellow carers to take five minutes out of their day to do something that made them happy. “I know your day is stressful, and I know that your day is hard, but I just want you to break it up for a minute, and just look for something beautiful,” Emma shared.”
