According to Mediate, OJ Simpson, the controversial figure known for his past legal troubles, made an unexpected move by expressing his support for Vivek Ramaswamy, an emerging candidate within the GOP, for the presidency. Simpson utilized his Twitter platform to share his views, blending discussions on sports and politics in a video tirade that spotlighted his admiration for Ramaswamy’s ideas.
In the video that surfaced on a Sunday, Simpson began by recounting his engagement with political content, particularly highlighting Ramaswamy’s appearance on the show “Meet the Press” after Donald Trump skipped out on the first GOP debate. Simpson, referencing his experience watching Republican debates, shared his initial intrigue with Ramaswamy’s propositions, only to find himself taken aback by certain statements made subsequently.
Simpson, positioning himself as a political independent and leaning towards libertarian views, emphasized his endorsement of Ramaswamy’s innovative concepts. He emphasized his belief that political affiliation should not dictate one’s choice of candidate, stressing the importance of voting for the individual who best embodies the qualities needed for leadership, regardless of their party label.
The former NFL star went on to laud Ramaswamy’s ideas and even mentioned that he had begun reading a recent book authored by the GOP candidate. While Simpson admitted to only having delved about 30% into the book, he expressed a genuine appreciation for the freshness and novelty of Ramaswamy’s ideas. However, Simpson did note a point of disagreement with Ramaswamy’s stance on foreign affairs, particularly referencing a debate performance. Nonetheless, Simpson attributed this discrepancy to Ramaswamy’s relative youth and inexperience in politics.
Simpson’s support took a specific direction as he offered advice to Ramaswamy. He suggested that if Ramaswamy could disentangle himself from certain associations within his own party and stay true to the ideals presented in his book, he could potentially solidify his position. Simpson went on to recommend that Ramaswamy consider partnering with an experienced figure like Nikki Haley, who possesses a strong background in foreign affairs, thereby augmenting his chances of success.
“This morning, I got up and I found myself watching Meet the Press, they had Vivek Ramaswamy on,” Simpson began. “Now, just like the debates, the Republican debates. I said, ‘Hey, this guy’s onto something’ and then he’ll say something else — I say ‘Oh, my God.’”
“I attribute it to his youth, I guess. Now, first, let me make it clear I’m not a Republican. I’m also not a Democrat. I would have call myself an independent, but I’m probably, I’m a little more a libertarian, even though I think you vote for the best person. I don’t care what party they’re in,” he added.
Simpson praised Ramaswamy for the ideas he has as a GOP candidate and even revealed he’s read some of the candidate’s recent book.
“I’ve only got like 30% into the book, but I love what he was saying in his book,” Simpson said. “And it’s fresh. It’s new. I got a little problem with his foreign affairs take. You know that I saw him do in the debate but he’s young. I honestly think if this guy unties that knot that for whatever reason he has that association with some of these other Republicans if he just unties it, stick with the things that he was saying in his book. And if he got himself an experienced person to run with him, an experienced person, I would say like Nikki Haley, somebody that knows foreign affairs, this guy would have a chance.”
“I think this guy really would have a chance. I think he gets in trouble when he seems to want to try to placate some other politicians in his party. I’m just saying. Hey, man, independent, do your own thing. Do what you say in your book. Just my advice,” he concluded.
