GOP Senators Were Set To Be Indicted With Trump

According to Mediate, the long-awaited official report from a Georgia grand jury, which recommended the indictment of former President Donald Trump and 18 of his associates for their alleged involvement in efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election in the state, was finally made public on Friday. This report, which had remained under seal for a lengthy nine-month period, was ultimately released following an order from a Georgia judge. Within its contents lie crucial recommendations made by the grand jury to prosecutors, as well as notable exclusions from indictment recommendations, some of which raised eyebrows.

District Attorney Fani Willis, who convened the grand jury in 2021, decided not to pursue indictments against certain individuals, including three sitting U.S. Senators. Notably, the grand jury did recommend the indictment of Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), along with then-Senators David Purdue (R-GA) and Kelly Loeffler (R-GA), both of whom had lost their reelection bids since the events under scrutiny.

The report further reveals that the grand jury suggested the indictment of pro-Trump lawyers Cleta Mitchell and Lin Wood, former state Senator William Ligon, former Trump National Security Advisor Mike Flynn, and former state Representative Alex Kaufman. These recommendations highlight the broad scope of individuals and entities implicated in the grand jury’s findings.

Senator Lindsey Graham had been under considerable scrutiny for his personal involvement in Georgia on behalf of former President Trump. Specifically, it was reported that Graham appeared before the special grand jury last year following a legal battle over his testimony. During this time, Graham had engaged in conversations with Georgia election officials in the aftermath of the 2020 election. His phone calls with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and his staff were related to the possibility of uncovering enough election fraud in the state to potentially tip the election in Trump’s favor, as reported by CNN.

Raffensperger himself testified that Graham’s requests left him feeling “uncomfortable,” as he believed Graham was applying undue pressure on Georgia election officials to alter the outcome of the vote tally within the state.

Furthermore, District Attorney Willis’s comprehensive indictment against Trump and his 18 co-defendants included a list of 30 unindicted co-conspirators who have not faced charges. This revelation led to immediate speculation that many individuals within Trump’s circle may have provided testimony against those who were indicted, adding another layer of complexity to the ongoing legal saga surrounding the 2020 election in Georgia.
