Gavin Newsom Reveals ‘Fetish’ Trump Has With…

According to Deadline, California Governor Gavin Newsom has revealed that plans for a debate with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis are still in progress but have encountered a hurdle related to the choice of venue. Speaking to Meet the Press moderator Chuck Todd, Newsom explained that the disagreement stemmed from the desire to have a debate with thousands of attendees, essentially making it a performance, a concept he wasn’t interested in. Despite this setback, Newsom indicated that they are making progress toward resolving the issue.

Newsom and DeSantis had agreed to a debate in early August, with Sean Hannity slated to moderate the event on Fox News. However, the two sides have been at odds over the specifics of the debate.

During the interview on Meet the Press, Todd inquired whether Newsom was still comfortable with Hannity as the moderator. Newsom responded by saying, “Well, I mean, it’s two against one,” suggesting a potential bias, but ultimately stating, “Bring it on.” He emphasized the importance of reaching out to rural and red states as part of his political efforts, even in regions where they may face opposition, to ensure that his message is heard.

Newsom went on to express his concerns about Governor DeSantis, describing him as “functionally authoritarian.” He raised worries about a growing inclination toward autocracy in the political landscape, not only from former President Trump but also from leaders worldwide. Newsom highlighted that his concern extended to “Trumpism,” which he views as a broader and enduring influence that transcends Trump’s presidency.

Additionally, Newsom addressed the subject of Senator Dianne Feinstein’s condition, suggesting that he would prefer not to make another appointment to fill her seat if she retires before her term is over. He reiterated his commitment to appointing a Black woman to the seat if necessary but clarified that it would be an “interim appointment” aimed at maintaining neutrality in the Democratic primary. This stance may exclude Rep. Barbara Lee from consideration, as she is running against other prominent Democrats for the same Senate seat. Newsom emphasized the hope that such a decision would not be necessary but maintained his commitment to the principles he has publicly stated.
