According to Mediaite, during his address in Clive, while discussing sensitive issues such as Hamas atrocities, former President Donald Trump encountered an unwelcome distraction in the form of persistent flies. Reacting in the moment, he embarked on an unexpected detour, expressing his frustration about the purported illegality of flypaper. According to an account from an individual who referred to him as “sir,” Trump lamented:
“People who support this and people who (waves away fly) sympathize with this are sick. They’re sick and they’re evil. And they’re not going to be fixed, you’re not going to make them into wonderful people one day.”
In an attempt to shoo away one of the bothersome insects, he continued, “I didn’t know you had flies in Iowa. I hate flies! Now they’ll. I’ll get in trouble for saying that. Cruelty to animals. No, it’s true.”
Amidst scattered laughter, he went on to recall an incident from his recent past: “You know, I said the other day I was at a place and it was a beautiful place, but they had like, flies. And I said, get flypaper! They said, ‘Sir, they’re not allowed to sell it anymore because of cruelty to animals.'”
Expressing his incredulity at the restrictions, he further remarked, “They actually said that! I don’t know. Can you get fly pa-? Used to be great, right? But they said, ‘You can’t do that anymore, sir, it’s cruelty.'”
Concluding his musings on the matter, he questioned the state of affairs in the country, exclaiming, “What the hell is going on with this country?”
Despite the unexpected interlude, Trump eventually steered back to the main thrust of his speech, announcing plans for critical measures to safeguard the populace in the coming years: “But today, I’m announcing vital steps it will take to protect our people in the next term. We need this.”
