According to Hip Hop DX, rap mogul Suge Knight has recently called out Master P for allegedly fabricating the details surrounding his purported visit to Knight in prison to negotiate the signing of Snoop Dogg to No Limit Records. Knight’s assertions came to light in a teaser for his upcoming podcast, “Collect Call With Suge Knight,” where he challenged Master P’s account of their interaction and the alleged multimillion-dollar deal offered during the prison visit.
Denying Master P’s claims, Knight emphasized the strict approval process for visitors and refuted the idea that Master P was ever on the list. Knight emphasized the validity of the existing contractual agreements, stating that he had arranged a deal with Bryan Turner at Priority Records, which allowed Snoop Dogg to work with both Priority and No Limit Records.
Snoop Dogg’s transition to No Limit Records in 1998 is considered a significant turning point in his career, with the rapper himself acknowledging the pivotal role played by Master P in his professional trajectory. In a previous interview, Snoop credited Master P with saving his life, recounting how the No Limit founder provided him with a substantial check after hearing about his planned controversial album “F*** Death Row.” Snoop disclosed that Master P advised him against releasing the album, fearing potential repercussions and offering crucial guidance that ultimately steered Snoop away from the project.
“[Master P] slipped up and said he came to visit me in prison,” Knight says in the preview clip. “And gave me a couple of bucks — $2 million I never would have took no shit like that for Snoop. I got a whole list if anybody ever visits me. You got to be approved. That n-gga is not on none of it.
“The paperwork is what the paperwork says. I did a deal with Bryan Turner at Priority Records. And [I] loaned Snoop’s services to Priority and gave him the right to go over to No Limit.”
Master P saved my life,” he said. “I was gonna put an album out called F*** Death Row and Mack 10 was gonna give me a million dollars to put it out. I would go up there [to the office] to see Mack 10 and when I would go up there, I would have to pass by Master P’s No Limit shit. I passed by one day and Mystikal was in there.”
Master P has also spoken about his instrumental role in Snoop’s career shift, echoing the sentiment that he played a vital part in rescuing Snoop from potential turmoil, particularly in his dealings with Suge Knight. He emphasized his belief in Snoop’s talent and the motivation behind bringing him to No Limit Records, portraying the move as an effort to protect Snoop’s well-being and artistic potential.
Snoop’s tenure with No Limit Records concluded in 2006 when he moved on to Geffen Records, marking yet another significant phase in the renowned rapper’s illustrious career.
