According to Yahoo, the Smith family has been making headlines, particularly after the highly publicized incident in 2022 when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock on worldwide television. The aftermath of this event has led to intense scrutiny of Will and his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, whose comments sparked the controversy. Amidst the media firestorm, one aspect of Jada’s past that often goes unmentioned is her involvement in a nu-metal band called Wicked Wisdom during the mid-2000s.
Wicked Wisdom, active from 2002 to 2006, gained attention in the music industry, becoming darlings of the scene. They released their debut album, “My Story,” in 2004 and toured with Britney Spears, as well as performing at major rock festivals like Download and Ozzfest. Will Smith himself executive-produced their second album, “Wicked Wisdom,” in 2006, and the band toured with Sevendust. However, after this period, Wicked Wisdom seemingly disappeared from the music scene.
Jada Pinkett Smith’s foray into metal was not a random decision; she had expressed her love for heavy music in interviews, stating that she listened to bands like Metallica and Guns ‘N’ Roses as a kid. With connections in the music industry, including a close friendship with Tupac Shakur in the early 1990s, she was able to assemble a lineup for Wicked Wisdom. Guitarist Pocket Honore became her main collaborator.
Initially, Wicked Wisdom’s music blended soul, hip-hop, and rock ‘n’ roll, with their sound evolving towards a heavier direction through live performances. Their metal credentials received a significant boost when they caught the attention of Sharon Osbourne, leading to their inclusion in the 2005 Ozzfest lineup.
Despite positive reviews for their self-titled album in 2006, Wicked Wisdom abruptly disappeared from the music scene. Reports suggest that Jada’s desire to spend more time with her family was a contributing factor. Despite their brief stint, Wicked Wisdom’s music remains an intriguing footnote in the history of nu-metal, with their biggest song, “Bleed All Over Me,” experiencing a revival when Jada’s daughter Willow Smith performed it live with the band in 2021. However, the future of this short-lived nu-metal experiment remains uncertain.
