GOP Woman ‘Pressured’ By To Reconcile With Trump

It has been noted that a new excerpt from Liz Cheney’s (R-WI) book claims that Fox News host Brian Kilmeade tried to get the former congresswoman to make peace with Donald Trump in spite of her objections to his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election via Mediaite.

The New York Times recently published previewed excerpts from Cheney’s upcoming memoir, Oath and Honor. The book has already drawn major media intrigue with Cheney’s shocking revelations about Kevin McCarthy, her other former congressional colleagues, and her warnings about the consequences of Trump becoming president again.

The Times’ excerpts largely deal with Cheney’s stand against Trump made her an outcast among her fellow Republicans, and changed her entire family’s relationship with the party. The most interesting one though was the part that described how Kilmeade called Cheney just months after January 6th, and the Fox & Friends host reportedly tried to get her to consider mending fences with Trump.

From the article:

“In March 2021, she received a call from Brian Kilmeade, a Fox host, with what she considered “an odd request” asking if she would consider sitting down with the former president.

“No thanks,” she replied. “Not interested.”

Mr. Kilmeade pressed the issue, saying she needed to bury the hatchet with Mr. Trump.

“Trump tried to overturn an election,” she said. “He went to war with the rule of law. He violated his oath to the Constitution.”

Mr. Kilmeade did not deny that. “I know,” he she recalled him saying. “But what if he is our only hope to beat Kamala?”

A person close to Mr. Kilmeade said on Thursday that he considered both Mr. Trump and Ms. Cheney to be friends and was only trying to lower the temperature by suggesting they talk through their differences.

The person, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of private discussions, said Mr. Kilmeade had not consulted with Mr. Trump about his outreach and did not remember bringing up Vice President Kamala Harris.”
