According to Mediaite, high-powered donors to President Joe Biden’s campaign reportedly celebrated the transformation of the former Trump International DC hotel into the Waldorf Astoria Washington DC. The donors, members of Biden’s national finance committee, expressed their glee, with one donor stating, “This is like a ‘fuck you’ to Trump.”
The Trump International DC hotel was a symbol during Donald Trump’s presidency, drawing attention and controversy. However, the hotel was sold to Miami-based CGI Merchant Group for $375 million, and its signage was removed about a year and a half ago.
After a winter meeting at the Waldorf Astoria, which now occupies the former Trump property, donors were reportedly excited about the change. One donor remarked, “We’ve turned Trump Tower blue,” while another noted the irony of the location being previously filled with Trump supporters.
The fundraising success of Biden’s campaign was also highlighted, with the report stating that Biden ended the third quarter with more cash on hand than the entire GOP field and more than twice as much as Trump. The transformation of the former Trump property and the fundraising achievements added to the satisfaction of Biden’s supporters.
As members of President JOE BIDEN’s national finance committee filtered out of their winter meeting at the Waldorf Astoria in downtown Washington, they could hardly contain their glee.
“This is like a ‘fuck you’ to Trump,” said one donor Thursday afternoon, slinging a canvas Biden campaign tote bag over his shoulder before heading into JOSÉ ANDRÉS’ lobby restaurant, The Bazaar, for some champagne.
