WWE Hall of Famer Tammy Sytch, better known to fans by her wrestling name, “Sunny,” was sentenced to 17 years in prison in a Volusia County, Florida courtroom over a March 2022 car crash that killed a 75-year-old man.
Sytch, who was driving a 2012 Mercedes-Benz, was accused of rear-ending the victim’s 2013 Kia Sorento while he was stopped at a traffic light. Authorities from the Ormond Beach Police Department later determined that the 50-year-old had a blood alcohol content of .08 (the legal limit in Florida) or higher. After initially pleading not guilty to eight charges stemming from the incident, Sytch reached a plea agreement with prosecutors back in August.
She was ultimately sentenced to 17 out of a possible 25 years, and will also be required to serve eight years of probation following her prison sentence, in addition to having her driver’s license permanently revoked. Before the fatal crash, Sytch had been arrested on DUI charges at least six times in Pennsylvania and New Jersey between 2015 and 2019.
But now her legal team is appealing that decision.
It has been noted that the appeal, filed on December 20th, is aimed at challenging the length of the sentence rather than contesting the verdict itself, as previously indicated by Sytch’s legal team. It was expected that Tammy Lynn Sytch would appeal this sentence, but we have no idea whether it will work.
The sentencing details are as follows:
Count One: 7 years in the Department of Corrections, followed by 8 years probation. This includes fines, court costs, and standard conditions, such as a permanent driver’s license suspension, alcohol safety education course, and victim awareness program. Count One is to be served consecutively to Count Two.
Count Two: 10.6625 years in the Department of Corrections with credit for time served amounting to 566 days.
Counts Three to Eight: 364 days in jail with credit for the full 364 days served.
In the official filing, Tammy Lynn Sytch’s public defender issued a notice of appeal to the District Court of Appeal, Fifth District of Florida, regarding the Order issued by the court on November 27th, 2023. It has been noted that it is just the first step of a long process, and there are no guarantees.
The order constituted a final ruling of Tammy Lynn Sytch’s guilt for various charges, including DUI Manslaughter, Driving While License Suspended with Death, DUI with Damage to Person, and DUI with Damage to Property. Those are some serious charges, but she was facing up to 26 years in prison.
