Trump’s Senator Buddy Hospitalized With Infection

It has been noted that Donald Trump’s friend, 90-year-old GOP Senator Chuck Grassley is in the hospital and is being treated for an infection, his office announced on Tuesday. The infection was not disclosed, but he is currently being treated with antibiotics.

“Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) is receiving antibiotic infusions at an area hospital to treat an infection,” his office said in a statement. “He is in good spirits and will return to work as soon as possible following doctors’ orders.”

Taylor Foy, who works as a spokesperson for Grassley, informed the Des Moines Register that the senator went to the hospital on Sunday. Tests were carried out to determine his diagnosis and to start the infusions. The therapy is still ongoing.

When asked about the length of Grassley’s hospital stay, Foy said he didn’t have any specific details to offer. However, he reassured that Grassley is expected to recover completely.

The revelation is released mere days before a deadline for a partial government shutdown, as CNN reports. Leaders in Congress had previously reached an agreement to finance the federal government through March. To get the legislation through both chambers before the deadline on Friday, both parties will need to secure votes.

According to the news outlet, the Senate is set to take a procedural step to advance the government funding resolution later tonight. Currently, the Democrats hold a majority of 51-49. Senator Grassley, who won his first Senate election in 1980, has been reelected seven times by the voters of Iowa.

He currently serves as the ranking Republican on the Senate Budget Committee. From January 2019 to January 2021, he held the position of Senate president pro tempore, making him third in line for the presidency.
