CNN’s Manu Raju recently questioned Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) on Wednesday regarding his reaction to former President Donald Trump’s overwhelming victory in the Iowa caucus on Monday and to some of the polling data from the event via Mediaite.
Romney, the 2012 GOP nominee for president, pulled no punches in his reply and brought up the E. Jean Carroll trial, which was currently underway in New York.
“Just asked Mitt Romney about Iowa caucus entrance polls showing that a majority of GOP caucusgoers didn’t believe that Joe Biden was elected legitimately,” wrote Raju on X. “I think a lot of people in this country are out of touch with reality and will accept anything Donald Trump tells them,” Romney replied.
“You had a jury that said that Donald Trump raped a woman. And that doesn’t seem to be moving the needle. There’s a lot of things about today’s electorate that I have a hard time understanding,” concluded the one-time Republican Party standard-bearer.
Trump was investigated for sexually abusing E. Jean Carroll in a New York City dressing room in the mid-1990s. He has since launched brutal personal attacks against Carroll, for which she sued for defamation and won. Trump is currently attending the trial to determine the amount of damages Trump owes Carroll. Trump chose to appear in the New York courtroom and has sparred with the judge in the case to the point that the judge has threatened to remove him from the proceedings.
