Former President Donald Trump’s celebratory speech in New Hampshire took an awkward turn as he brought up how Sen. Tim Scott politically threw Nikki Haley under the bus by stumping for him via Mediaite.
After endorsing Trump days ago, Scott backed the former president in New Hampshire as he used his primary victory speech to trash Haley for not getting out of the race. When Scott was invited to come up and speak, he declared the GOP primary a settled matter by proclaiming “This election is over. It’s time for the Republican Party to coalesce around our nominee and the next president of the United States, Donald Trump!”
As Trump continued bragging about his prospects for clinching the GOP nomination, he eventually turned back to Scott and brought up his extensive political history with the former South Carolina governor, including how she appointed him Senator back in 2012 to fill the vacancy left behind by Jim DeMint.
“Did you ever think that she actually appointed you, Tim? ” Trump noted. “And think of it. Appointed and you’re the senator of her state. And she endorsed me. You must really hate her. Nah. It’s a shame.”
That’s when Scott got up to the mic and declared, “I just love you!”
“That’s why he’s a great politician!” Trump said to laughter and applause
