NWA star and cancer survivor Blk Jeez, also known as Darnell Kittrell, recently faced a terrifying ordeal in Philadelphia when he became the target of an attempted carjacking. Fortunately, individuals potentially linked to the shooting have now been apprehended.
Having battled multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer, since April 2023, BLK Jeez was on the verge of making his comeback to the National Wrestling Alliance for a TV taping in Florida. Tragically, a day before his anticipated return, he fell victim to a gunshot during an attempted carjacking in Philadelphia. The NWA released an official statement, and Jeez provided a comment, revealing that he is currently in the recovery phase.
During an interview with The Wise Men podcast, the NWA star recounted the harrowing carjacking incident. He detailed the assailants wearing ski masks, prompting him to remain vigilant. As he reached for his registered firearm, one of the assailants hesitated, altering the course of events.
Jeez explained, “I was coming from my cousin getting a haircut, and this happened at 7 o’clock at night, so it wasn’t even late. I parked at the top of my street. It didn’t happen in front of my house, thankfully, and my girlfriend and daughter weren’t with me. I saw two guys coming out of the driveway, both wearing ski masks.”
The assailants, despite the illegal nature of wearing ski masks in Philadelphia, proceeded with their intentions. Jeez continued, “As soon as I saw the masks, I was on alert. I saw two more come out of the driveway. They all went to the other side and just stood there looking around. I took it as they’re looking to see if anybody else was outside. One of the guys turned around real quick, started walking towards me. As soon as he walked towards me, I pulled mine out. He froze and started backing up, and I heard a shot.”
Despite realizing he had been shot only later, Jeez maintained his composure and swiftly responded by firing in the direction of the assailants. He acknowledged the mistake of not being in constant motion during the incident.
Acknowledging the severity of the situation, Jeez admitted, “I didn’t know I was shot until I got in the house, and my girl was already on the phone with rescue or whatever. Then when I got on the phone with the lady and I’m telling her what happened, my girl lifted my shirt up and she was like, ‘Oh my God, you’re shot.’ She started freaking out.”
Jeez praised the swift police response, leading to his prompt hospitalization and subsequent release the following day. In terms of the perpetrators, the police discovered a gun in a stolen vehicle near Jeez’s residence. While three individuals were arrested in connection with a stolen car and a recovered gun, Jeez remained uncertain about their direct involvement in his shooting.
The detective informed him, “Two days later, which was last Saturday, they chased down the stolen car and they arrested three guys and retrieved a gun out of the car. He didn’t say whether or not it was them, but it was in the same vicinity of where I live at.”
Despite the traumatic experience, Jeez is slated to be present at the NWA’s Hard Times special in March, scheduled to take place in Dothan, Alabama. Fans are relieved that Jeez managed to survive the distressing incident, eagerly anticipating his return to the wrestling scene.
