Kellyanne Conway, former White House advisor and campaign manager for Donald Trump in 2016, shared a list of potential running mates for the GOP during an appearance on Fox News on Monday. She expressed her enthusiasm about the idea of Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) joining the Republican ticket.
“I think President Trump has a lot of runway when it comes to choosing his running mate,” began Conway before suggesting that “almost anyone that President Trump is considering and would consider as a serious running mate can absolutely beat Kamala Harris in a debate.”
She went on to list former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo as well as Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Tom Cotton (R-AR) as options before bringing up Scott.
“I think that Tim Scott checks a lot of the boxes, somebody who dropped out of the race and is actively campaigning for President Trump, but who will eat into this notion that the Democrats have a lock on African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Asian Americans, union households,” argued Conway. “Tim Scott is very — Senator Scott is very articulate when it comes to the issue of abortion. He seems to be able to explain how the other side is extreme and what it means to be pro-life in 2024.”
Scott endorsed Trump last month over his last remaining competitor in the Republican primary, Nikki Haley, who appointed Scott to the Senate back in 2013.
At a rally in New Hampshire last month, Trump congratulated Scott on his recent engagement by alluding to long-running, salacious rumors about Scott’s sexuality.
Conway also acknowledged that there are several female contenders for the no. 2 slot, including Senators Katie Britt (R-AL) and Joni Ernst (R-IA), Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, and South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem and GOP House Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (R-NY).
