President Joe Biden recently took on Russian President Vladimir Putin, and former President Donald Trump, while he talked about the potential for nuclear war in off-the-cuff remarks at a San Francisco fundraiser on Wednesday night via Mediaite.
When discussing Russia, Biden called Putin a “crazy SOB.”
“We have a crazy SOB like that guy Putin and others, and we always have to worry about nuclear conflict,” the president said.
Biden’s comments were made while he was pointing to climate change as the ultimate “existential threat to humanity.”
He also blasted Trump and the state of the Republican Party, accusing conservatives of being worse than outspoken racists he once served with in the Senate.
“I’ve served with real racists. I served with Strom Thurmond. I served with all these guys that have set terrible records on race,” he said. “At least you could work with some of these guys. Time and again, the Republicans show they’re the party of chaos and the party of division.”
On Trump comparing himself to the late activist Alexei Navalny, who was imprisoned by Putin before his death, Biden said he’d be “committed” if he uttered such things.
“If I stood here 10, 15 years ago and said this, you all would have thought that I should be committed — it’s astounding,” he said.
Biden’s Russia comments earned a response from Deputy Chair of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev, who accused Biden of being ready to “start war with Russia.”
“As opposed to what the US president has said, the existential threat is not climate; but the useless old geezers, like Biden himself, who have become senile and are ready to start war against Russia,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
