CNN’s Kaitlan Collins recently promoted an exclusive one-on-one interview with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky, including one exchange in which he slammed former President Donald Trump for being “on the side” of Russian President Vladimir Putin via Mediaite.
The full interview will air Monday night at 9:00 PM ET on CNN’s The Source with Kaitlan Collins. Excerpts from that part of the interview were shared on CNN’s site on Monday, and Zelensky expressed disbelief that Trump would support Putin over the country he invaded.
He told Collins, who was on location in Kyiv, Ukraine, that he “can’t understand how Donald Trump can be on the side of Putin,” adding, “It’s unbelievable.”
He further told Collins:
I think Donald Trump doesn’t know Putin. I know he met him… but he never fought with Putin. (The) American army never fought with the army of Russia. Never… I have a better understanding.
He also said, “I don’t think he understands that Putin will never stop.”
The interview also covers Zelensky’s plea for more financial aid from the United States. In the clip above, which aired on CNN This Morning on Monday, Zelensky stated that without further aid, his country would see no “new success”: “Steps, success forward will depend on USA.”
