Former president and Republicans’ presumptive 2024 presidential nominee Donald Trump recently took a jab at Nikki Haley right as Haley walked out to a podium to drop out of the GOP primary race on Wednesday morning, hours after Trump romped through the Super Tuesday primaries via Mediaite. Trump seemed upset about losing Vermont to Haley.
“Nikki Haley got TROUNCED last night, in record setting fashion, despite the fact that Democrats, for reasons unknown, are allowed to vote in Vermont, and various other Republican Primaries,” began Trump in a post on Truth Social. “Much of her money came from Radical Left Democrats, as did many of her voters, almost 50%, according to the polls. At this point, I hope she stays in the ‘race’ and fights it out until end!”
“I’d like thank my family, friends, and the Great Republican Party for helping me to produce, by far, the most successful Super Tuesday in HISTORY, and would further like to invite all of the Haley supporters to join the greatest movement in the history of our Nation. BIDEN IS THE ENEMY, HE IS DESTROYING OUR COUNTRY. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!” concluded Trump.
The Wall Street Journal reported earlier on Wednesday morning that Haley would suspend her campaign, but refrain from endorsing Trump. In remarks announcing the end of her pursuit of the White House, Haley argued that it was up to Trump to unify the party.
“In all likelihood, Donald Trump will be the Republican nominee when our party convention meets in July,” declared Haley. “I congratulate him and wish him well.
However, Haley did not endorse her old boss, instead urging her supporters to make up their own mind about who to vote for in November:
I have always been a conservative Republican and always supported the Republican nominee. But on this question, as she did on so many others, Margaret Thatcher provided some good advice when she said “Never just follow the crowd, always make up your own mind.”
It is now up to Donald Trump to earn the votes of those in our party and beyond it who did not support him and I hope he does that.
Haley was the last remaining challenger to Trump in the primary. She served as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations during his first stint in the White House.
