Trump Calls Republican Senator ‘Lame Brain’

Former President Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on Republican Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana in a series of fiery posts on his Truth Social account on Monday evening.

In his posts, Trump branded Cassidy as “Lamebrain” and accused him of being disconnected from his constituents.

Although the exact catalyst for Trump’s criticism remains unclear, the focus of his social media outburst was aimed squarely at the two-term senator and physician, who was one of seven GOP senators who voted to convict Trump of “incitement of insurrection” in February 2021.

Trump lambasted Cassidy, calling him “one of the worst Senators” and a “TOTAL FLAKE,” despite his Republican affiliation. He highlighted Cassidy’s previous reliance on Trump’s endorsement during his campaign in Louisiana, only to seemingly betray him later.

According to Trump, Cassidy had previously sought Trump’s endorsement for the governorship of Louisiana, a favor that Trump seemingly preferred to grant to Jeff Landry, the state’s current Republican governor.

Further disparaging Cassidy’s loyalty and intelligence, Trump suggested that the senator was unreliable in challenging times, comparing him unfavorably to himself.

Trump concluded his tirade by asserting that Cassidy was now ostracized in his own state as a disloyal lightweight, a spectacle Trump found satisfying.

Cassidy has yet to respond publicly to Trump’s criticism. However, in February 2021, he justified his vote to convict Trump by stating that “our Constitution and our country is more important than any one person.”

Additionally, Cassidy had previously criticized Trump during an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper, suggesting doubts about Trump’s electability in the 2024 presidential race.
