“The Juice,” directed by Joshua Newton, is an upcoming satirical thriller that delves into the infamous O.J. Simpson trial through the eyes of a real-life attorney, Douglas McCann, who becomes entangled in various conspiracy theories surrounding the case. The film’s release in 2025 coincides with the 30th anniversary of Simpson’s not guilty verdict.
Initially, Owen Wilson was considered for the lead role of McCann, with Newton and his team believing he was a perfect fit. They offered him a $12 million deal, and Wilson’s agent seemed enthusiastic about the project. However, despite the tempting payday, Wilson ultimately declined the role due to the controversial subject matter. According to Newton, Wilson stated,
“If you think I’m going to take the lead role in a movie about how O.J. didn’t do it, you’ve got to be kidding me.” Despite Wilson’s decision to pass, Newton reassured that they found another actor who fits the part well, suggesting that the project is moving forward.
Boris Kodjoe has been cast as O.J. Simpson, while Charlotte Kirk will portray Nicole Brown Simpson. The film’s plot centers on Douglas McCann, a street-smart Los Angeles attorney, who risks everything when conspiracy theorists draw him into the divisive O.J. Simpson saga. Given the timing and subject matter, the film aims to offer a satirical yet thrilling take on one of America’s most talked-about legal cases.
