Despite their history as rivals during the heated East Coast-West Coast rap feud in the 1990s, Knight expressed concern over the impact of these allegations on the hip-hop community.
Knight and Combs have a long-standing rivalry that escalated during the mid-1990s, when Death Row Records and Bad Boy Entertainment became synonymous with the East Coast-West Coast conflict. The tension reached a tragic peak with the murders of Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G. in separate drive-by shootings. Knight was in the car when Shakur was assassinated, and Diddy has faced allegations of ordering a $1 million hit on Shakur, claims that have gained traction in recent years.
In the TMZ documentary, Knight discussed his initial reaction to the news of Combs’s scandals and controversies, which ultimately led to federal raids on Combs’s properties. He explained that instead of feeling vindicated by his rival’s downfall, he was concerned about the impact on Combs’s children and the broader hip-hop community. “The first thing that came to my mind was he had a son… he had his daughters. My first reaction was about the kids,” Knight said.
Knight emphasized that the allegations against Combs were “a bad day for hip-hop” and the culture, as they made everyone involved in the music scene look bad. He expressed his belief in resolving personal disputes privately, rather than celebrating or promoting violence. Knight underscored his commitment to not “cheer for people’s downfall,” stating, “If I have a problem with Puffy, that’s for him and I to sit down in a room and resolve it.”
