Donald Trump and his legal team have reportedly taken action to halt the release of the forthcoming “The Apprentice” film in the United States, sending a cease-and-desist letter to the producers. According to sources familiar with the matter, the letter warns against pursuing a distribution deal for the film, as reported by Variety on Friday.
In response to the cease-and-desist letter, Trump’s representative Steven Cheung characterized the film as “pure malicious defamation” and vehemently opposed its release, stating that it does not deserve to see the light of day. Cheung expressed disdain for the film, suggesting it belongs in a dumpster fire rather than being distributed to audiences.
The producers of “The Apprentice” film countered Trump’s objections, asserting that the film offers a fair and balanced portrayal of the former president. They expressed their desire for the public to view the film and make their own judgments.
The New York Post previously reported that Trump’s campaign was considering legal action against the filmmakers, with Cheung raising concerns about potential election interference given the timing of the film’s release amid the Republican candidate’s preparations for the upcoming presidential race against President Joe Biden.
“The Apprentice” film, featuring Sebastian Stan in the lead role as a younger Trump, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in France and reportedly received a standing ovation lasting several minutes. The biopic delves into Trump’s early career, including his interactions with lawyer and mentor Roy Cohn, portrayed by Jeremy Strong.
