George Clooney’s Wife In Trouble With Biden?

George Clooney’s support for his wife, Amal, a big human rights lawyer, is reportedly causing tensions not only with the White House but also within his circle of Hollywood friends. This friction arises from Amal Clooney’s instrumental role in urging the International Criminal Court to seek arrest warrants for Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, over alleged war crimes in the ongoing conflict with Palestinian groups.

Amal’s advocacy has clashed with the stance of the Biden administration, which supports Israel in its war against Hamas, following a significant October 7 attack. This support contrasts sharply with Amal’s push for legal action against Israeli leaders, highlighting a significant difference in viewpoints.

Earlier this month, the Republican-led House of Representatives voted to sanction the ICC if it pursued the prosecution of Netanyahu and others. This development has raised concerns for George Clooney, who fears that his wife’s involvement might subject her to sanctions and potentially bar her from entering the United States. In response, George reportedly contacted the White House, expressing his concerns to Steve Ricchetti, Counselor to the President.

Amal Clooney’s role in the ICC’s actions has also affected George’s participation in political events. Despite his commitment to hosting a Biden fundraiser alongside celebrities like Julia Roberts, Jimmy Kimmel, and Barack Obama, Amal’s absence was notable due to the potential awkwardness her presence could cause, given the current political climate.

The event at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles raised $28 million for Biden’s re-election campaign, revealing the high stakes involved. Amal, one of six legal experts, advised the ICC’s chief prosecutor, Karim Khan, to pursue arrest warrants for Netanyahu and other Israeli leaders, citing reasonable grounds to believe they committed war crimes. Her advocacy underscores her commitment to the rule of law and the protection of civilian lives, as highlighted on the Clooney Foundation for Justice’s website.
