On Tuesday, while guest-hosting for Jimmy Kimmel, Martin Short weighed in on Melania Trump’s reported dissatisfaction with her time in Washington and her rumored reluctance to return to the White House if Donald Trump were to win another election.
Expressing a touch of empathy for Melania, Short jokingly remarked on her expectations when entering the marriage, given the significant age gap between her husband, who recently turned 78, and the average life expectancy of American males.
“I actually have a little empathy for Melania,” said Short, who is filling in as host for Jimmy Kimmel this week. “She entered into this marriage, she had a certain expectation. And that expectation was that the average life expectancy for an American male is 76.3 years old.”
He quipped about being “contractually obligated” to poke fun at Trump during his stint on the show but also offered a lighthearted suggestion to Melania: considering moving to Canada, where, according to a news story he referenced, there are actually Trump-like characters—including a colorful tale involving a psychic grifter.
“According to a story I saw today, there are plenty of Trump-like con artists up there, too,”
