Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) stated that it would be “totally reasonable” for former President Trump to investigate President Biden if Trump is elected to a second term. Vance’s comments came during an interview on NBC News’s “Meet the Press,” where he addressed a clip of Trump from the previous year, in which Trump pledged to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Joe Biden and his family.

Vance, who is considered a top contender to be Trump’s running mate, minimized the significance of Trump’s threats, suggesting that media outlets were overemphasizing Trump’s statement. He explained that Trump’s intention was to investigate the prior administration for any wrongdoing. Vance accused Biden of conducting similar investigations against Trump over the past few years and argued that Trump’s proposal was reasonable.

Vance pointed out that Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed special counsel Jack Smith to investigate Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election results, leading to two indictments against Trump. Vance questioned whether Biden’s actions were a greater threat to democracy compared to what Trump proposed.

The Justice Department has been involved in the recent indictments of two Democrats, Sen. Bob Menendez (N.J.) and Rep. Henry Cuellar (Texas), as well as the conviction of Hunter Biden, the president’s son, by a DOJ special counsel. There has been no evidence suggesting that Biden or Democrats are directing the Department of Justice’s actions.
