Former White House trade advisor Peter Navarro, currently incarcerated on contempt of Congress charges, is reportedly scheduled to speak at next week’s Republican National Convention shortly after his expected release. According to sources familiar with the event’s schedule who spoke anonymously, Navarro is set to be released from a Miami prison on Wednesday, July 17, giving him enough time to travel to Milwaukee before the convention concludes on Thursday.
Navarro was convicted in September for refusing to cooperate with a congressional investigation into the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. His inclusion in the convention program suggests organizers are not avoiding figures charged with crimes related to the attack and its underlying falsehoods, despite the event’s broad prime-time viewership.
During his time in federal prison, Navarro criticized his conviction as a partisan misuse of the judicial system, arguing he couldn’t comply with the committee’s subpoena due to former President Trump’s claimed executive privilege, a defense ultimately rejected by the courts.
Trump has publicly supported Navarro, labeling him a “good man” and “great patriot,” while Navarro’s appeal efforts have been unsuccessful, including denials from the Supreme Court.
The upcoming convention appearance underscores ongoing political tensions surrounding the January 6 investigations and related legal battles involving Trump and his associates.
