NXT Women’s Champion Bayley spoke with Sporting News to promote NXT TakeOver: Dallas. Here are the highlights.
I know you’re getting ready for NXT: TakeOver in Dallas. On a scale of 1-10, how are excited are you right now for your match against Asuka?
I would say about 12. I’m really excited. She’s one of the best that I’ve ever seen and I’m excited to try and prove to myself that I can take on someone as good as her.
You’re obviously very tight with Sasha, Charlotte and Becky Lynch. Was it tough once they went to the main roster and the transition of being the NXT Champion and not having them around?
A little bit. Honestly, I think I’ve been learning the most about myself as a performer and wrestler since they’ve been gone because I’ve been working with less experienced girls and all kinds of different styles like Nia Jax and soon Asuka. So I’m challenging myself in different ways that I wouldn’t have if they were still here. I guess mostly with them being gone I just miss having them around. When we do these shows like returning to Columbus or Cleveland where we’ve had Fatal 4-Way matches, it’s certain things where I just miss having them around because they’ve been here since I started. It’s a little bittersweet. I do miss wrestling them because they’re just amazing but I know the time will come again. I’m having fun with the girls that are here right now.
Obviously, your goal is to make it to the WWE main roster. You’re going to be around WrestleMania and part of the weekend again this year. Is it tough for you to watch WrestleMania? I know some of the other guys have said that they want to be on the show so badly that it’s tough to watch if they’re not on it.
I feel like that anytime I’m watching Raw or anything but I think this WrestleMania, I’ve been saying it for the past first days and it sounds really cheesy, but there’s so many of my friends that are on the show this year. Sami Zayn, Kalisto and especially the girls with Sasha, Becky and Charlotte that I’m going to have such a good time watching them. I’ve been watching by their side the last could of years and now being able to watch them on the show, I feel like I am part of the show. Next year, I’m going to make sure that I am on the show.
