WWE has been looking to sell its business ever since the return of Vince McMahon to the company. After announcing his “retirement” in July 2022, McMahon made a surprise comeback last January and was reinstated as the WWE Executive Chairman of the Board. Now, he is actively involved in the pursuit of selling the company, with Saudi Arabia emerging as a top contender. However, according to recent reports, the asking price for the sale is considered exorbitant, which could potentially derail negotiations.

According to Dave Meltzer, Saudi Arabia’s interest in purchasing WWE goes beyond just commercial gain, making them a strong contender to acquire the company despite the high asking price. Meltzer drew comparisons to the country’s investment in LIV Golf and soccer, which has led to accusations of “sports washing,” a tactic used to improve a nation’s image by investing in sports.

By acquiring WWE, Saudi Arabia could improve its global reputation, which has been tarnished by allegations of human rights abuses. Meltzer also mentioned Tony Khan and Endeavors’ purported interest in WWE during the episode.

If WWE does decide to sell to the highest bidder, Saudi Arabia is likely to succeed in putting together a substantial offer compared to the other potential buyers. Although Tony Khan has expressed interest in buying the company and claimed that his family is involved in significant investments, Saudi Arabia appears to be a more formidable bidder.
