Keir Starmer recently insisted that President Joe Biden is not senile as he held talks with the US President at the White House via Mirror.
It has been noted that the PM said the 81-year-old was on “good form” as they chatted in the Oval Office. Away from the cameras, Biden is understood to have cracked jokes as he brushed off concerns about his health.
The sources have suggested that he had told several amusing stories that may have been rambling but were relevant to the conversation.
When asked if Biden was senile, Mr Starmer told the BBC: “No. We had a really good [meeting], we went on for the best part of an hour. We went through a huge number of issues at pace, he was actually on really good form… [He was] absolutely across all the detail.”
Starmer stated that it “felt very good” to be called “Mr Prime Minister” by the President. “We were able to affirm the Special Relationship, which has existed for a long time between our countries, forged in difficult circumstances and as important today as it’s ever been,” he told a separate interview with Sky News.
The PM and his wife Vic on Wednesday night were hosted by Biden and Dr Jill Biden at a dinner for world leaders and their spouses in the White House. Guests were served a menu including salad with mountain peaches, Alaskan halibut, and lemon panna cotta.
Biden described the US and UK the “best of allies” and described Britain as “the transatlantic knot” that ties Nato together. The PM is in Washington DC on his first foreign trip on the job to attend a summit marking the 75th anniversary of Nato.
He met the President, he hailed “a bigger Nato, a stronger Nato and a Nato with the resolve that we need”.
World leaders have been keen to meet Starmer during the trip, with most apparently asking how he managed to secure such a big majority after Labour’s thumping win. The summit took place as there are growing calls for Mr Biden to abandon his re-election bid amid concerns about his health.
George Clooney, who hosted a fundraiser for the President just three weeks ago, called on the Democrats to pick a replacement candidate, warning he “cannot win”.
