It has been noted that on Saturday night, the president and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden gave remarks at the 2023 Human Rights Campaign National Dinner at the Washington Convention Center, Washington, DC.
The first lady spoke first, and then shortly after President Biden began his remarks, he was interrupted by rather persistent but difficult-to-understand shouting about the situation in Israel. The president, who couldn’t hear her, tried to handle the situation with humor:
PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN: You inspire us.
(SHOUTING BEGINS).
And I want you, all of LGBTQ Americans, to know the Biden-Harris administration has your back. I know who’s hollering down there, but I can’t hear you.
(laughter).
Well, look. I can’t hear her, what she’s saying?
(shouting persists).
Well, thank you. Whatever you’re saying, I’m going to say that I can’t hear you. Look, I’ve been labeled the most–.
CROWD: (CHEERS) FOUR MORE YEARS! FOUR MORE YEARS!
PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN: Oh, I get it. I think I’m not sure that’s a good thing. No, I’m only joking. Look, I’ve been labeled the most pro-equality president in history, and I’m not sure that is true
According to a pool report, the woman was demanding a “ceasefire in Gaza”:
A Trump supporting attendee interrupted the president’s remarks by repeating shouting over his remarks,
“Let Gaza live, ceasefire now.” The woman repeated the chant over POTUS remarks.
He stopped to acknowledge her remarks, but said he could not hear what she was saying.
“Whatever you are saying, I can’t hear you,” POTUS said.
Protester was quickly drowned by chants of “Four more years!”
The president would go on to address the situation in Israel during the closing section of his speech.
