The Rock was featured at WrestleMania 40 but The WWE Universe witnessed the return of The Rock inside the squared circle this year at the Show of Shows after not wrestling in a proper match for over a decade and has not lost a step in his recent performance.
The Final Boss delivered an exceptional in-ring performance and teamed up with his cousin Roman Reigns to defeat Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins on WrestleMania 40 Saturday with The Rock picking up the pinfall after a thunderous People’s Elbow on The American Nightmare.
“From what we’re told, this is very much a long-term thing. There is no planned date for Rock to return for a match, but it’s been talked about next year’s Mania. Originally he wanted to come back and work with Reigns, but obviously based on everything that went down, the singles title match with Rhodes is the bigger match right now. As things stand right now, he may work a match later this year but that is not a lock. He would prefer to work with Rhodes in the main event of next year’s Mania, and as we’ve seen, he is generally going to get what he wants. That would seem to lock Rhodes in for at least a one-year title reign. We are told is that isn’t a lock, but Johnson would prefer it.”
The Great One announced his hiatus on the RAW after WrestleMania 40 during a confrontation with Cody Rhodes.
Meanwhile, Brock Lesnar has been absent from WWE programming since his match with Cody Rhodes at the SummerSlam Premium Live Event. His absence has led to speculation about his future with the company. Fans has raised question whether Lesnar would return to WWE, particularly given his connection to Vince McMahon’s lawsuit and the uncertainty it introduced. It has now been revealed that Lesnar will return to WWE eventually.
Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported tha Lesnar’s situation is different from that of Vince McMahon and John Laurinaitis, who are unlikely to return to WWE. Meltzer also noted that Lesnar’s return was not imminent and there were no immediate plans for it.
”We’d been told a few weeks ago that it was one of those deals unlike McMahon and John Laurinaitis who are likely never coming back, in that at some point he’d be back. We were also told at that time it wasn’t going to be that soon and it was nothing in the immediate plans.”
