It has been noted that Casey DeSantis stated any comparison to former First Lady Melania Trump is a compliment – even if she’s being called the ‘Walmart Melania’ via Daily Mail.
Florida’s first lady hit back at attacks against her during a sit-down with conservative commentator Dana Loesch, and specifically addressed those making fun of her wigs while she was going through breast cancer treatment.
Her husband, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis finds his 2024 presidential campaign floundering, many Republicans still see Casey, a mother-of-three and breast cancer survivor, as the shining star of the operation.
But that too comes with attacks from the opposing political party as well as from die-hard Trump supporters who want to see him as the Republican presidential nominee.
‘How do you navigate that, especially in this political environment, and just [this] media age?’ Loesch asked Casey DeSantis during their interview set to air Tuesday afternoon.
DeSantis, who was once a news anchor, said she had to ‘hold my breath’ when the conservative media personality was listing some of the insults that have been thrown at her over the last few years when her husband become governor and later launched a presidential bid
‘They’ve also called me Walmart Melania,’ DeSantis noted. ‘Which, by the way… being in the same sentence with Melania? I consider that a major victory. So check that box.’
Florida’s first lady admitted: ‘I do shop at Walmart, because I mean, you have young kids, they grow up like this.’
Melania Trump, a former model, was often seen as a fashion icon in the White House. Some have fondly compared Casey DeSantis and her fashion and poise to former U.S. first ladies like Jackie Kennedy and Nancy Reagan.
Several months ago, Ron DeSantis was seen as the likely Republican to be able to take on former President Donald Trump in the 2024 primary election. But throughout the campaign so far, other contenders have caught up to the Florida governor and his poll numbers have slipped to sometimes as distant as fifth place.
Casey and Ron have two daughters and one son – Madison, six, Mason, five, and Mamie, three.
