CNN Announce ‘Delay’ In Trump vs. Biden Debate

The upcoming debate, as reported by Leading Report’s Patrick Webb, will potentially include time for editing parts of the broadcast. Scheduled to run for 90 minutes, it will begin at 9 p.m. Eastern Time (6 p.m. Pacific) and feature two commercial breaks. This marks a significant change from past general-election debates sponsored by the Commission on Presidential Debates, which traditionally did not include commercial interruptions.

The Seattle Times provided additional context, noting that while 90 minutes is a standard length for a presidential debate, the inclusion of commercial breaks is noteworthy. These breaks will offer candidates an opportunity to take a breather and collect themselves, something not available in previous years. However, candidates will not be allowed to consult with their aides during these breaks.

In a significant departure from previous debates, there will be no live audience. This condition was reportedly demanded by the Biden campaign, likely due to concerns that former President Donald Trump would feed off the audience’s excitement and energy. This absence of a live audience aims to create a more controlled environment, focusing solely on the candidates’ responses and interactions.

CNN will be moderating the debate, with hosts Jake Tapper and Dana Bash overseeing the proceedings. The debate format will allocate two minutes for each candidate to answer questions and one minute for rebuttals. The moderators will have the discretion to grant additional time if deemed necessary. To ensure an orderly debate, candidates’ microphones will be muted when it is not their turn to speak. This measure, another request from the Biden campaign, is intended to prevent interruptions and maintain a structured and respectful exchange of ideas.
