Cody Rhodes Replaced By AEW Star At WrestleMania?

The former AEW EVP Cody Rhodes has been slated to be the mystery opponent of Seth Rollins come WrestleMania 38. Vince McMahon is set to reveal his opponent of his choosing. But, it turns out ‘The American Nightmare’ might back out of the agreement.

Cody Rhodes might back out before the match

Following his departure from AEW last month after the two sides couldn’t reach an agreement on terms for a new deal, Rhodes started talking with WWE regarding a return and has reportedly signed a deal with them.

WWE RAW star Seth Rollins recently got his demand fulfilled for a match at WrestleMania 38. It has been noted that Rhodes is likely to be the one who would step up as his opponent, marking his return. But, last few days, rumors stated that Shane McMahon could be back in the company soon.

While speaking with Denise Salcedo, Dave Meltzer was asked what the reaction would be if WWE swerved the fans with someone else other than Rhodes at WrestleMania 38. This is where he noted that he knows people close to Rhodes who think he may still back out of returning. Here is what he reckons:

“Depending on who it is, it better be somebody good because…everyone expects it and they kind of have to deliver it I suppose. If it’s not him, it’s his choosing, it’s not theirs. They believe it’s him. They believe that’s the guy. If for whatever reason he backs out because he’s going to back out, I don’t expect that to happen, but I know people close to him who do so what the hell. We’ll have to see how it plays out.”

Seth Rollins teased AEW’s Marko Stunt challenging him at WrestleMania instead of Cody.

There were issues where he wasn’t able to do a lot of stuff in the ring for awhile.

WrestleMania 38 will take place on Saturday, April 2 and Sunday, April 3 from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
